Deb Hired, Fired, then Re-Hired

Deb 'scans and stuff' by DEBORAH SCHWARTZ
NEW YORK, NY—After several months of volunteering at Here Is New York, Deb Schwartz was hired as a full-time staff member of the gallery.
Three months later, she was laid off.
One month after that, she was re-hired.
"Gosh," said Schwartz, who was married some time after being hired the first time, but before being fired. "This city really moves fast."
Schwartz will be working mostly at the gallery’s midtown location. Originally, the gallery collected photographs that bore witness to September 11th and its aftermath. Here Is New York is now expanding its scope to a photographic discourse concerning how we continue “after the aftermath”.
“I scan images and stuff,” said Schwartz. “In a few weeks, I’ll also be entering information into the database and stuff.”
Schwartz, 25, admits she was surprised to learn she had been laid off. She spent an uncomfortable month waiting to hear if she’d be rehired. But her dedication to the organization was mighty; she continued giving her time to the gallery without seeking monetary reward.
”I really didn’t have much else to do. So I just kept going into work anyway.” Schwartz said. “Maybe they finally got confused and mistook me for someone who'd been kept on the payroll.”
Schwartz, Geller Are Married

Schwartz, Geller experiencing strange feelings of marital bliss

HOLLYWOOD, FL--New York City’s favorite young couple finally tied the knot . . . in Florida.
The couple says they chose the sassy town of Hollywood, Florida, because that’s where the bride’s parents live, so “that’s where the money is”. Neither the bride nor the groom contributed even a cent the festivities, so all their opinions were vetoed.
"Brian and I were just ready to take our relationship to the next level," says Deborah Schwartz, who is keeping her maiden name. "We wanted to refer to each other as ‘my old man’ and ‘my old lady.’"
Brian Geller agreed, and added that the gifts were definitely a plus. He then mused on changing his name to B. Herman Geller, as it sounded decidedly “more WASPy.”
Many friends and family members of the couple attended the happy occassion, which was held on January 26, 2002.
"My dress didn’t rip and the food was pretty good" said Schwartz. “What more could I have asked.”
When requested to reflect on the state of marriage, Geller said, “My old lady, she’s okay. Only, I wish people hadn’t quit sending us presents.
Deb Visits Philadelphia: Birthplace of Legionnaire’s Disease

'Deb likens Philly to 'a dirty Baltimore'

Philadelphia, PA—Question: What do the Liberty Bell, Legionnaire’s Disease, and Deb Schwartz have in common?
Answer: They’ve all hung out in Philly..
Deb Schwartz, who claims to have visited at least six metropolitan cities, had a friend attending a conference in Philadelpia. So she purchased a bus ticket and “crashed” in Philadelphia for the weekend.
”I fancy myself a cosmopolitan gal,” said Schwartz. “And I have never passed up an opportunity to vacation with a free hotel room.
Brian Mack, a close friend of Schwartz’s, neglected much of the conference fanfare, choosing instead to drink beer and go “wig hunting” with Schwartz. Interestingly, at no time did either of the two order the mixed drink known as a cosmopolitan.
"I think I developed a cold on my last day there" said Mack, who is from Minneapolis, a metropolitan city which Schwartz has never visited. “But Deb bought me J.Lo. glasses, so it was alright.”
The trip back to New York was not without consequence. Schwartz claims Peter Pan bus lines “forced” her to watch “Spy Kids.” When bus was going around a turn heading into the Lincoln Tunnel, it hit a Port Authority vehicle, and travelers were delayed an hour while the bus driver fought loudly with Port Authority police.
